Homemade Kaya

This is a recipe handed down to me by my mum-in-law more than a year ago and it's SK favourite spread. It takes alot of efford and therefore, we got to get it right. So after several sessions of major brainstorming...."do we beat the egg and sugar first, before adding the coconut milk?"..."Do you remember how your mum tied the pandan leaves into a knot?"...and so on...you get the gist...

Anyway, basically it's simple, we combined these into a bowl,

The eggs and pandan leaves . Nice looking right....until...

...Whoops! I see only sugar now :o

then in went the coconut milk...not a pretty sight...

Then I stirred for an hour until all sugar particle disolved

Transferred to the double boiler and stirred for another hour on high temperature

Finally, just simmered on low heat and stirred 5 mins every hour for the next 2-3 hours.

The final result ...

Tada!

Since all pics are posted in 'LARGE', you can imagine how proud we were with ourselves.

Hi! Tks for the link and wow, I love this kind of kaya but never dare to attempt doing it. I tried once and got an 'egg pudding' LOL instead. The kaya won't stick to the bread and it kept rolling off like little balls. Hahaha. Hopefully, I will give it another shot with your recipe. (am from malaysiabest)

Thanks 5Xmom. I love reading your blog as it reminds me of Malaysian glorious food. The stirring of the kaya was abit mind-numbing, but my hubby loves kaya, so I guess it's worth it.
